Document Conceptual Questions, Objectives, & DPI Competencies
Conceptual Questions

1. How does wind energy interact with water to produce waves and ocean currents?

2. How do wind and waves affect the shoreline?

3. How do the sun and moon interact to produce tides?

Objectives

1. Describe the interactions of winds with ocean water to produce waves and currents.

2. Identify common coastal landforms and understand how they are formed and changed over time.

3. Explain the anatomy and behavior of ocean waves.

DPI Competency

The learner will build an understanding of the HYDROSPHERE and its interactions and influences on the lithosphere, the atmosphere and environmental quality.

4.03 Analyze the mechanisms for generating ocean currents:

Temperature.
Deep ocean circulation.
Salinity.
Planetary wind belts.
4.04 Analyze the mechanisms that produce the various types of shorelines and their resultant landforms:

Nature of underlying geology.
Long and short term sea-level history.
Adjacent topography.
