The Collection
The Curriculum
Materials Center maintains a collection of materials designed to support
the educational activities of the students, faculty and staff of the
School of Education. The collection includes:
Textbooks and Supplementary Materials:
The CMC houses textbooks
from previous adoption cycles (current state-adopted textbooks are kept
in Davis Library), as well as ancillary materials for current texts.
Subject areas include: Social Studies, Language Arts, Math, Science,
Health, Art and Music. In addition, the CMC collects materials to support
other programs in the School of Education.
Audiovisual Materials:
Videos, audio cassettes,
compact discs and books on tape may be borrowed for classroom use.
CD-ROMs and Other Software:
The CMC collects
stand-alone software, as well as those that support specific textbook
series.
Special Library Collections:
The CMC collaborates
with faculty members, local educators and School of Education programs
to create and loan special collections. For example, through a PDS partnership,
several area high schools received vocational education materials on
extended loan. Also, some collections are available in-house, such as
America Reads, NC TEACH, Gender Studies and the Jazz Collection.
Juvenile
Books:
This collection includes juvenile biography, picture books, easy readers,
fiction and non-fiction, as well as over 150 big books in English and
Spanish.
Manipulatives:
An extensive collection
of math, science, and language arts manipulatives is available. Examples
include Unifix cubes, base ten blocks, thermometers, measuring tools,
vocabulary cards and sentence strips.
Posters, Floormats, and Workmats:
These ancillary
materials are stored in a vertical file arranged by subject area or
kept in the corresponding manipulatives cupboard.
