Searching for Materials
The CMC's automated
circulation system, ATHENA, searches materials by title, author and
subject, but can only be accessed through CMC computers. Searching in
ATHENA should be combined with regular browsing since all items have
not been cataloged yet. Staff will continue adding items into the system
until ATHENA can search the entire collection.
Check-out Procedure
A sign-out sheet
is used for recording borrowed materials that have not yet been cataloged
into ATHENA. Users must fill in their name, Personal Identification
Number (PID), email address, the titles of the items and a brief description
of the kinds of materials borrowed. Items with an ATHENA bar-code may
simply be scanned as soon as the CMC has name, PID and email address
on file. Staff members can provide assistance with this process, as
well as date due slips.
Loan Periods
Materials not marked
"Reference", "Reserve" or "NC Teach" are
available to be checked out for 30 days. Patrons may borrow up to 25
items on their UNC ONE cards. Patrons with special needs should speak
with CMC staff about an extended loan.
Overdue Materials
Items will be considered
overdue following a three-day grace period beyond the original due date.
Those library users with overdue materials will be notified by email.
Fines may be incurred.
Intended Users
Resources of the
CMC are primarily for the use of students, faculty and staff of the
School of Education, although anyone is allowed to visit and use the
materials inside the Center. However, only those with a valid UNC ONE
Card (faculty, staff and students) will be allowed to check out materials.
