With a grant from the US Department of Education, the Office of the President at the University of North Carolina and 20 low-wealth School districts are working to enhance college access for their students. Gear Up North Carolina is a comprehensive, statewide partnership whose purpose is to significantly increase the number of students who are prepared to enter and succeed in post-secondary education. Gear Up NC offers services and activities to students in grades 7-12 and their families, educators, counselors, and community leaders. In 2003, the program served more than 5,600 students. EvAP will work with Gear Up NC staff to prepare and implement an evaluation plan that will include: evaluation training for program staff and project partners, which will assist them in developing district evaluation plans annually; technical assistance to district Program Coordinators as needed to implement district evaluation plans; cross-site identification and summary of common outcomes; annual sharing of district evaluation results and instruments.
