Monifa Green Beverly is a graduate assistant at EvAP. Currently she is assisting with Project Quest and the Introductory Physics Task Force (IPTF) evaluations. Project Quest, administered through the Wake County Public School System’s Magnet Programs Department, is a program designed to increase the successful participation of low-income students in academically rigorous, higher–level academic courses. IPTF, funded by an NSF grant, seeks to reform the introductory physics curriculum at UNC-Chapel Hill. Monifa is also engaged in a case study of successful state-wide college access initiatives.

In addition to serving as a graduate assistant at EvAP, Monifa is currently working on her Ph.D. in Culture, Curriculum, and Change at UNC-Chapel Hill. Her research interests include Social Foundations of Education, Research Methods, Educational Evaluation, Critical Race Theory and issues concerning people of color, Community Development and Rural Education

Monifa hopes to complete her doctorate by May 2006. Her dissertation is a generational study of families in a rural community in Virginia, which continues to wrestle with racism, economic deprivation, and generational divisions.
