The
Academic
Year
Component
is comprised
of Saturday
Enrichment
Academy
and
After
School
Scholastics
Institute
that
assist
students
in improving
basic
skills
in mathematics,
science,
critical
thinking,
and
reading,
writing,
language,
and
verbal
communication
skills.
The
After
School
Scholastics
Institute,
held
bi-monthly
at the
target
schools
and
supervised
by the
High
School
Coordinator,
focus
on academic
advising,
personal
and
group
counseling,
and
student
leadership
activities.
The
twice
per
month
Saturday
Enrichment
Academy
(16)
provide
services
that
include:
tutorials,
preparation
for
standardized
testing,
scholastic
motivation,
college
preparation,
student
leadership,
cultural
enrichment,
college
tours
and
career
exploration.
Schedules
Other
Program
Activities
Tutorials
Tutoring
in core
curriculum
and
electives,
if needed,
is provided
at the
Saturday
Enrichment
Academy
and
on an
as need
basis
at other
designated
sites.
Students
are
also
required
to participate
in the
on-school-site
tutorial
program.
Freshman,
Sophomore,
Junior
and
Senior
Seminars
Cohort
seminars
are
designed
to assist
students
will
leadership
skills;
orient
them
to careers;
and
assist
them
in preparation
for
entry
into
colleges
and
universities.
Scholar
Bowl
Upward
Bound
will
participate
in the
Academic
Bowl
sponsored
by the
North
Carolina
Council
of Educational
Opportunity
Programs
(NCCEOP)
and
Southeastern
Association
of Educational
Opportunity
Program
Personnel
(SAEOPP).
Scholar
Bowl
participants
will
practice
in at
least
ten
sessions
during
the
Academic
Year,
prior
to competition
in the spring.
Practice
sessions
will
take
place
at the
Saturday
Scholastic
Sessions
and
other
designated
times.
