Dr. Joseph M. Green,
Director
Dr. Green is the Director of the Upward Bound Program at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. He also is the former Director of the Ronald E. McNair & the Research and Mentoring Program (RAMP) Scholars Post-Baccalaureate Achievement Programs at the University of Central Florida. Recently he served as McNair Director and Assistant Professor of Political Science at North Carolina Agricultural & Technical State University. Dr. Green is the author of Your Past and the Press, a book which examines media activity and its affect on the presidential appointment process. His primary teaching and research interests include Presidential policymaking, intergovernmental relations, electoral politics, interest group, and media activity. Dr. Green’s experience relative to mentoring has focused on preparing first generation, low income, and underrepresented students for post secondary education and graduate studies. Additionally, he has experience providing community service as a public speaker and youth mentor. Furthermore, he has performed extensive work in the area of student development and leadership through his participation with Council for Opportunities in Education (COE/TRIO Programs). In recent years, he has given workshops and seminars on various topics including "the best practices in higher education and understanding minority community struggle." He also is well versed in public policy specifically aspects of the Higher Education Act which focuses on providing social, community and educational opportunities for first generation, low income and minority students. Dr. Green previously taught at Norfolk State University, Norfolk Va., and Christopher Newport University in Newport News, Va. Along with his experience in teaching and research he also has several years of experience as grant administrator and student advisor. Joseph Michael Green received undergraduate and graduate degrees from Bowie State University, Bowie, Maryland. He also holds a Doctoral Degree in Political Science from Howard University, Washington DC. |
