Placement in English Composition courses depends upon the highest of one of the following examination scores, or upon the results of the English Department placement exam. Students placing in English 102 will receive three hours of credit for English 101; students exempting both English 101 and 102 will receive six hours of credit. English 101 and 102 or their exemption are prerequisites to all other courses in the English Department.

Students scoring below 470 on the Verbal SAT prior to March 2005 and below 460 during or after March 2005 are required to take the placement exam on August 18, 2008. Transfer students are encouraged to take the exam and any student who is is interested in exempting English 101 or 102 is invited to take the exam as well.
