Christiane Lemke Becomes First Woman Director of a German State Parliament

Christiane Lemke The Center for European Studies would like to congratulate Christiane Lemke, who was recently appointed as the head of the administration of the state parliament in Lower Saxony.

Her position includes managing the parliament and the departments of finances, human resources, maintenance, parliamentary affairs, and press and public relations. Christiane Lemke is the only woman in Germany in this leadership position. She is on leave from the University of Hannover.

Professor Lemke served as visiting DAAD Professor in European Studies, 2005-2006.  She taught a course in the Transatlantic Masters Program on EU Enlargement and the Case of Turkey.  Christiane is a frequent visitor to the CES/EUCE. Indeed, while DAAD professor in the early 1990s she worked with a group of UNC faculty members to help establish the Program in European Studies - the precursor to the current Center for European Studies.
