University of Michigan Panel VI. Germanness and Gender; "Holocaust Memory, Feminity, and Cold War Rhetoric" Abstract: In this paper, I will explore the connections between the gendering of holocaust memory and the discourse of the Cold War. I will focus on the Kommandeuse (1954), Peter Weiss, Die Ermittlung (1965), and Albrecht Goes, Das Brandopfer (1954). In the conclusion, I will also address two texts from the post-Cold War era: Bernhard Schlink, Der Vorleser, and both the book and film Aimee und Jaguar. |
