Exploring Identity and Nationality in ³les Buerettes²

My mission was to compile oral history interviews with a community of women in Paris who share North African descent. Within Paris, these women are called ³les Beurettes,² a title that comes from the Verlan language, a mix of French with some Arabic. I chose to look at the women of this community, les Beurettes, because I felt that they were confronted with conflicts of integrating both their feminism and their nationality.

"Through my survey, I realized that identity is not an easy topic to explore, whether it is your own or anotherıs. Many factors including oneıs psychological situation, family stability, and education were exemplified by how objective and accepting one could be about his or her identity."
