Exploring Identity and Nationality in ³les Buerettes²

My mission was to compile oral history interviews with a community of women in Paris who share North African descent. Within Paris, these women are called ³les Beurettes,² a title that comes from the Verlan language, a mix of French with some Arabic. I chose to look at the women of this community, les Beurettes, because I felt that they were confronted with conflicts of integrating both their feminism and their nationality.

"Through my survey, I realized that identity is not an easy topic to explore, whether it is your own or another¹s. Many factors including one¹s psychological situation, family stability, and education were exemplified by how objective and accepting one could be about his or her identity."
