Overview
A 2-day workshop on party politics, elections, and public opinion
Amsterdam
June 13-14, 2008
Since the late 1960s, we are witnessing a decline of cleavage politics throughout Europe. As a result of processes of social and political modernization, traditional linkages between parties and voters began to weaken, resulting in a steady rise of electoral volatility throughout most countries of Europe. Owing to these intertwined processes, political scientists are faced with new challenges. For example, which issues are important to voters, and what is the impact of ‘new’ dimensions of political competition, such as European integration and immigration, on traditional patterns of party competition?
This workshop invites cutting-edge research on these topics. The purpose is to provide a platform for intellectual discussion on current themes in the fields of representation, party strategy, voting behaviour, and public opinion.
The event is open to all NIG members. For further information or if you would like to attend, please contact
