X. ConclusionAlthough the Creole identity finds its origin in a tragedy, the crossing of the Atlantic , also called "the Great Passage", this tragedy succeeded nevertheless in creating a new culture, a culture that ignores borders as it encompasses Anglophone, Francophone and Hispanic islands throughout the Caribbean sea . Against all odds, the black woman is rising from the various patriarchies (European and Caribbean ) that oppressed her. Condé 's intellectual women revive a long line of women who, like Tituba have been muted by History but who have all destroyed the stereotypes that oppressed them.
