Introduction

In this section of the site entitled A la carte you will find a collection of pedagogical material that may be used independently or in relation to the other parts of this site.

The orientalist posters, for example, could be the basis of a class discussion on the relationship between "art" and "history" and the manner in which art can become a powerful tool for a particular ideology. These posters can also serve as illustration for several parts of our site, Créole, Négritude and Muslim Women in France in particular.

The collection of photographs "Les Grandes Vacances" may also serve as a jumping off point for a discussion of the concept of vacation and the manner in which this concept developed in France. The illustrations in this collection present a different view of France than those in the other sections and will allow numerous comparisons.

The many film clips may also be used independently or in conjunction with the other links of our site. Agnès Varda's The Gleaners and I is presented with a text entitled "Teaching The Gleaners and I" which will guide you in presenting this film.
