An
Examination of the Balkans Crisis by the
Center for European Studies at the University of
North Carolina
at Chapel Hill
This report looks at how the conflict in Yugoslavia
began, beginning with a description of the region's
history and following with a look at the contemporary
cultural and political climate. It then assesses how
circumstances came to a head precipitating the protracted
battle on the Balkans. In addition, it explores the
European, US, and NATO responses to the crisis, reflecting
on how effectively each actor contributed to establishing
a peace and to furthering the long-term success of
stability and democracy in the area.

After such a history of long conflict between them, European
nations are experiencing a new era of peace and
prosperity." Continue...
