CES
co-sponsored a live performance in French by French actor
Claude
Beauclair and his company as part of of the George Sand Bicentennial
Celebration. Claude Beauclair played the role of Gustave Flaubert,
and Françoise
Mojeret assumed the role of George Sand, in a play by Catherine
Masson. The acclaimed Sand and the controversial author of Madame
Bovary
discuss
a variety
of topics including: writing, literature, politics, contemporary
history from 1852 through 1876, the Republic, marriage, hysteria,
and gender. The play chronicles a long friendship nourished through
a rich correspondence of over 400 letters. A videotape of the play
will be available from the CES library for teachers to use in tandem
with this curriculum. |
