Professional Summary
Dr. Debby Stroman is
in her first year as a faculty member in the Sport Administration
specialization. Her teaching focus is the theory and practical application
of financial management, leadership, and marketing of athletics. She
received her degrees from the University of Virginia (B.S. 1982), University
of North Carolina (M.A. in Sport Administration 1986), and Capella
University (Ph.D. in Organization and Management 2007). Her dissertation
topic is “The Critical Success Factors of the Atlantic Coast Conference.”
Dr. Stroman’s research interests are organizational leadership, marketing,
servant leadership, athletic management, and social issues of sport.
Prior to her appointment at
UNC, Dr. Debby successfully owned and managed sports marketing, financial
consulting, and nutritional supplement companies. She is the 2006 recipient
of the state of Maryland’s Top MBE Award, which recognizes leadership, and
business and entrepreneurial success. She also has experience as a grant
writer, philanthropic development officer, and fundraiser for non-profit
organizations. Dr. Stroman is the owner of the L.A.S.E.R.™ (Life After
Sports With Effective Results) Institute, which provides life coaching and
strategic planning to athletes, and Soulful Golf, Inc. Previous employment
experience includes intercollegiate athletics, corporate management, and
financial planning.
