Welcome to the Sports Medicine Research Laboratory

The Sports Medicine Research Laboratory (SMRL) is devoted to the identification of risk factors and prevention of sports related injuries, with emphasis on injuries to the head, knee, shoulder, and ankle.  Furthermore, the SMRL is dedicated to developing injury screening and prevention strategies that are clinically applicable.  To achieve these goals the SMRL collaborates with the Department of Orthopaedics, School of Public Health, Division of Allied Health Sciences, and the Injury Prevention Research Center at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Since 1996, the SMRL has been located in Fetzer Gymnasium within the Department of Exercise and Sports Science.  The 1700 sq.ft. facility is used by faculty, students, residents, fellows, athletic trainers, and physical therapists to perform interdisciplinary research aimed at achieving the laboratory's mission.
