Dr. Frederick Mueller, Professor

Dr. Mueller teaches the introductory course in Sport Administration. Research area in sports injuries and is Director of the National Center for Catastrophic Sports Injury Research.

 

Barbara Osborne, J.D.  Associate Professor, Coordinator of Sport Administration Specialization

Ms. Osborne teaches the introductory course in Sport Administration and graduate courses in legal issues and practicum.  Research areas of interest include Legal Issues in Intercollegiate Athletics, Title IX, pay equity, and liability.

 

Dr. Edgar W. Shields, Jr., Associate Professor

Dr. Shields has twenty years experience in Intramural-Recreational Sport Administration in higher education (sixteen years as Director of Program); coached football, basketball, track and field at high school level. Current research interests and projects include: substance abuse in high school athletes; intimidation and violence in high school athletic programs; administrative issues in physical education, exercise and sport science programs in higher education.

 

Dr. Richard M. Southall

          Dr. Southall is the Director of the College Sport Research Institute

 

Dr. Deborah Stroman, Lecturer

Dr. Stroman serves on graduate thesis committees and has taught the Marketing, Economics and Finance, and Leadership courses in the Sport Administration graduate program. She also coordinates experiential projects with the Atlantic Coast Conference and the Advisory Board for the College Sport Research Institute. She has extensive experience as a former athlete, coach, and administrator in intercollegiate athletics with UVA, UNC, and the NCAA. Research areas of interest include social issues of sports, leadership, marketing, and entrepreneurship.
