Graduate students admitted to
the athletic training specializations have a number of opportunities to
engage in a supervised teaching experience.
As indicated in the
Assistantships link, each student has a Graduate Teaching Assistantship
(TA). Part of the responsibilities of the TA are to teach the
Lifetime Fitness courses during each of their four semesters.
Students gain valuable experience as teachers at the collegiate level by
serving as instructors in these courses.
Some of the graduate students
enter our program with an ultimate goal of becoming a program director or
at least being a classroom instructor in athletic training courses.
Our undergraduate CAATE accredited athletic training program provides an
opportunity for interested graduate students to gain a valuable experience
as volunteer teaching assistants for a particular course program at some
point or another either teach a class or organize an in-service meeting
for undergraduate students on a topic of their interest or expertise.
Second year graduate students
serve as Approved Clinical Instructors (ACI) for the undergraduate
athletic training students and as such are expected to provide day-to-day
clinical instruction and feedback to students working in the athletic
training room or covering practices and/o games.
