Banu Gokariksal to start as assistant professor in July

The department is very happy to welcom Pervin (Banu) Gokariksal who will be beginning an appointment as assistant professor this year. Banu has her Phd from the University of Washington and specializes in gender and modernity in Islamic cultures. Her dissertation investigated these issues in Istanbul and Jakarta. Since finishing her studies at Washington, Banu has been an instructor at Duke and UNC.
