New NSF grants in the department

Wolford receives new NSF grant
Wendy Wolford has received a grant from the National Science Foundation entitled, “Grounding the State: An Institutional Ethnography of Agrarian Reform in Brazil.? The grant totals $140,000 and will run for three years.

Kirsch receives new NSF grant
Scott Kirsch has received a two year grant for $52,000 from the National Science Foundation. The project, ˇ°The National Map in a Global Age: A Study of Science, Territoriality, and Governance in the U.S. and Philippines during the Late 19th and Early 20th Centuries" is funded jointly by NSF Geography and Regional Science along with Science and Technology Studies.

Band receives new NSF grant
Larry Band is one of five co-PIs on a National Science Foundation Biocomplexity (Coupled Human and Natural Systems) Grant for $1,400,000 over three years. The project, ˇ°Feedbacks Between Complex Ecological and Social Models: Urban Landscape Structure, Nitrogen Flux, Vegetation Management, and Adoption of Design Scenarios,ˇ± is a collaborative project with researchers at the Institute for Ecosystem Studies, Yale University and the US Forest Service.
