Research Interests

My broad research interests lie in the realms of biogeography, conservation, landscape ecology, and ornithology. Specifically, I am interested in how landscape structure and ecological processes interplay with the range dynamics of threatened species at differing scales. Through my research, I hope to further incorporate remotely sensed data, ecological models, and GIS into conservation biology, management, and studies in biodiversity.

About Me

When not inhabiting Saunders Hall, you can usually find me backpacking in Sequoia National Park, diving off of Marathon Key, snowboarding into Zermatt, or “birdwatching” in the Gila Wilderness or the Alaka’i Swamp (see photo). It may be evident how one’s love for the outdoors directly translates into an ambition for field research in geography. However, my moment of clarity came rather late, with a copy of David Quammen’s Song of the Dodo in hand on a remote island off the coast of Thailand (http://www.unex.ucsb.edu/sp/fsp/wildlands/). Fast forward four years and here I am, pursuing my doctoral degree in geography at UNC while working (happily) as a teaching assistant for Geography 12 (Environmental Conservation).
