CALL FOR PAPERS:
The Institute of African American Research's annual African American Studies Conference will explore issues that both cohere and divide black families and will analyze how African American families function in contemporary America. Papers on all topics are welcome, especially those concerned with the following:
-Music
-Faith
-Social Justice: Crime/Incarceration
-Finances and Economic Development: Investing, Fair Housing, Entrepreneurship
-Family Relationships: Silence in Family Relationships, Marriage, Singlehood
-Children: Raising Boys vs. Girls, Mentorship, Fatherhood, Discipline, ADHD, Over- Medication, Community Parenting
-Food: Diet and Nutrition, Obesity Rates
-Traditions
-Elders
-Literature that examines the Black Family
Abstracts should be no more than 250 words and are due on September 15, 2008. Please include your name, contact details (email and phone), and institutional affiliation.
