Students may receive credit hours toward graduation for completed internships by following the guidelines set forth by the Office of Undergraduate Curricula.

If, instead of merely receiving hours toward graduation, students wish to receive three hours of credit toward the fulfillment of INTS major requirements, students must do the following:

  1. Find a UNC professor willing to supervise an independent study whose content would be consistent with the substance of the internship;
  1. Complete a substantial research paper based on the independent study. Research papers should be approximately twenty-five (25) pages in length; and
  1. Ensure that the content of the independent study and research paper is consistent with either the student's theme or area within INTS, as it will only be possible to receive theme or area credit (not core credit) from an approved internship-based independent study.
  1. Receive pre-approval from Jonathan Weiler, Director of Undergraduate Studies. Only pre-approved internships may count toward the INTS major. Students seeking credit toward graduation, rather than credit toward the INTS major, do not require Dr. Weiler's approval.

If you have further questions about this process, please e-mail Dr. Weiler at jweiler@email.unc.edu.
