Jim and Helen Underhill Course Enhancement Awards
Underhill Grants fund activities designed to enhance and
enlarge the intellectual experience of undergraduates at Carolina,
particularly first year students. Grants of up to $1,000 are
available to faculty teaching First Year Seminars or Honors
courses in the following disciplines:
- English
- Environmental Studies
- Folklore
- History
- Math
- Physics
- Biology
We are particularly interested in activities that might be
opened to the
larger campus community, but that is not a requirement for
funding. Some possibilities for Underhill Grants include,
but are not limited to:
- Informal get-togethers and meals for students and faculty
- Films or art exhibits
- Performances and readings
- Speakers and other classroom projects
- The production of class projects (published collections of student writing, art and photo exhibits, etc.)
Instructors who are eligible for Underhill grants will receive via e-mail a notice of upcoming deadlines. Applicants are asked to complete and submit the online application form.
