Introduction to HTML: A Quick (Non-Crash) Course
Goals for today:
- E-mail your preliminary research topic
proposal to me by the end of class; about a dozen lines of information should be enough. Tell me something you already know about the subject and how you plan to make it flexible enough to use in business, government and journalistic sources. Suggest some of the keyword strategies you will use.
- Explore the HTML (hypertext markup language) and begin using it to
help control the appearance of our Web pages.
- Begin to discuss the kinds of Web page content, including text, pictures, and
hypertext, and its relationship to authorship, ownership, copyright and artistic issues.
- Discuss Macintosh and UNIX files and folders.
- Search for your topic and examine the HTML of found pages.
- Catch up from yesterday's over-ambitious list of things!
- Try a silly number of new HTML tags.
Assignment:
- Read about Web page publishing in the Dead Tree Edition (151-241),
paying special attention to the HTML tags (163-181).
- Plan to bring a photo of yourself (or another photo you own) tomorrow to scan and include on your Web
page
