Academic Accommodations

Accommodations are determined based on the impact of a student’s disability.  Their purpose is to provide equal access to learning; they are not intended to provide an unfair advantage to the student, and they do not guarantee success.

The following accommodations are approved for students based on the impact of their disability.

Testing Accommodations

Extended Test Time is approved for a student with:

  • slow processing speed
  • difficulties regulating attention

Reduced-Distraction Test Setting is approved for a student with:

  • difficulties regulating attention

Computer on Exams is approved for a student with:

  • difficulties with written language mechanics (spelling, grammar, etc.)
  • illegible handwriting (dysgraphia)

Text-Reader is approved for a student with:

  • difficulties decoding and/or comprehending text
  • attentional difficulties that impede the ability to read independently.

Dictation Software is approved for a student with:

  • expressive language difficulties

Other Accommodations

Note Takers are approved for a student with:

  • difficulty translating spoken information into written form
  • difficulty with multi-task information
  • difficulty writing quickly and/or legibly

Text-Reader (see above; some students only use text readers to aid them with lengthy assigned readings and do not use them for exams)

Priority Registration is approved for students who need to enroll in classes and create a weekly schedule that matches their learning styles as well as minimizes the impact of their disabilities.
