Responsibilities of Student, Disability Service Provider and Faculty

Ensuring that a student can access approved accommodations requires cooperation and communication among the student, the disability service provider (includign both the Department of Disabilities Services and the Academic Success Program), and the faculty.

Responsibilities of Student

  • Self-identify to Department of Disabilities Services (DDS) by submitting appropriate documentation completed by a licensed evaluator.
  • If DDS determines eligibility, request necessary accommodations each semester.
  • For classes in which testing accommodations have been approved, discuss disability and accommodations with professor(s) at the beginning of semester.
  • Maintain same academic standards as students without disabilities.

Responsibilities of Department of Disabilities Services (DDS)

  • Determine student eligibility after a thorough review of documentation submitted by student.
  • Inform faculty of their students eligible to receive testing accommodations.
  • Proctor exams for students approved for testing accommodations when alternative arrangements have been mutually agreed upon by student, professor and DDS.

Responsibilities of the Academic Success Program (ASP)

  • Direct students to DDS with accommodations issues.
  • Provide Services to students with LD/ADHD.

 

Responsibilities of Faculty

  • Provide equal access to learning – without lowering academic standards or expectations – to students with disabilities.
  • Contact DDS with any questions or concerns about a student and/or accommodations.
  • Contact DDS if you are unable to proctor an exam for students approved for alternative testing accommodations.
  • Direct student to DDS if s/he is requesting an accommodation but you have not received an official letter from DDS.
