The Annual Joel Schwartz Lecture * attendance limited to CLD program participants and invited guests During the Spring of 2001, friends, family and colleagues of UNC Chapel Hill political science professor Joel J. Schwartz had a surprise retirement party for him and established an endowment fund in his honor. The income from this fund is used to bring speakers to campus to talk with current students involved in the various leadership development programs sponsored through the Carolina Leadership Development office. These speakers are to be former UNC-Chapel Hill students who have tapped their leadership potential with distinguished careers. 2006 Speaker: David Moricca, a UNC-CH graduate and former NC Fellow This year’s speaker will be David Moricca, a member of the Fellows class of 1998 and graduate of the Political Science program. During his time at UNC, David studied abroad in Zimbabwe and became involved in a project that sent books and school supplies to a school there. On this night, David will be accompanied by Proud Dzamukira, a student he met while in Zimbabwe, who is currently a junior at Harvard University. Proud was one of six students featured in an educational video on Zimbabwean schoolchildren that Moricca co-produced in his last year at UNC. Past Joel Schwartz Lecture Speakers
