Medieval Studies: Advisory Board
The purpose of the UNC-Chapel Hill Medieval Studies Advisory Board is to establish an organizational structure for medieval studies at the graduate level. (The undergraduate minor in Medieval Studies has its own organization, structure, and procedures.)
The Medieval Studies Advisory Board will be composed of six faculty members, two graduate student representatives, and one undergraduate representative (each to serve two-year terms) and the Medieval Studies Advisor for the Undergraduate Minor (whose term of office is determined by the Advisory Board for the Medieval Studies Undergraduate Minor). The undergraduate representative will be appointed by the Medieval Studies Undergraduate Advisor. To ensure continuity, only three faculty members and one graduate student representative will rotate off the board in a given year while the other members continue for a second year. Faculty board members will be elected from faculty participating in Medieval Studies. Ballots containing the names of all faculty members so designated will be sent out by the Chair of Medieval Studies each spring. The Chair will remind voters of the disciplines represented by members rotating off the Board so that the broadest representation of disciplines, units, and individuals might ideally be achieved over time. Each spring the outgoing Chair will call a meeting at which the newly-elected Advisory Board will choose one of its members to serve as Chair and another to serve as Graduate Advisor for the coming year. These positions may be occupied for two consecutive years but should over time rotate among representatives from a wide range of participating departments, curricula, and programs.
