Did you ever wonder how scientists are able to predict where things like asteroids and satellites and space debris are going to fall when they come down to Earth? Or ever wonder how they can tell in the All-Star Home Run Derby how far a home run ball flies? Both are examples of mathematical modeling within a branch of physics called kinematics. In this learning module, we will explore how some of these models relate to quadratic equations and the importance of mathematical models in science. Students can go ahead and get started under the For Students tab and teacher resources are located under the For Teachers tab. After completing the module, if you are interested in learning more about mathematical modeling, then check out the Extras tab. Good luck and enjoy!
