- Council on Undergraduate Research (CUR)
The mission of the Council on Undergraduate Research is to support and promote high-quality undergraduate student-faculty collaborative research and scholarship. CUR and its affiliated colleges, universities, and individuals share a focus on providing undergraduate research opportunities for faculty and students at predominantly undergraduate institutions. CUR believes that faculty members enhance their teaching and contribution to society by remaining active in research and by involving undergraduates in research. CUR’s leadership works with agencies and foundations to enhance research opportunities for faculty and students and provides support for faculty development. CUR sponsors an excellent biannual conference on undergraduate research and education, publishes a journal (CUR Quarterly), books, and an informative “How-To” series. Individual memberships are quite reasonable and may be of interest both to faculty and to graduate students and post-docs with interests in careers in academia.
- The Reinvention Center
The mission of the Reinvention Center is to sustain the focus on undergraduate education inspired by the Boyer Commission Report, Reinventing Undergraduate Education: A Blueprint for America's Research Universities (1998).
The Center also aspires to be an active and informed voice for promoting change. It carries out its activities through regional meetings, conferences, and special projects. All conference proceedings and informative “Spotlight” articles about innovative programs are freely available from the Center’s website.
Publications
The Director, Associate Director and the graduate assistants have published articles about establishing an office of undergraduate research, the role of mentoring in graduate education, introducing student inquiry in large introductory classes, organizing symposia for state legislators, and introducing research experiences in courses by collaborating with Graduate Research Consultants. These articles can be viewed or downloaded. We are grateful to the Council on Undergraduate Research, who holds the copyright for several of these articles, to allow us to provide web access to them.
