Application Checklist
Use this checklist to keep track of your progress as you get ready to submit your application for IRB review. Regarding the review process, you should allow a couple of weeks and up to a month in some cases, for review of your application and notice to be sent back to you. It is best to check with the Office of Human Research Ethics about board meeting times.
- Meet with your faculty research advisor to discuss your project and research plans
- Discuss the IRB. Does your research require approval?

- Take the Ethics Training Course

NOTE: You will need to register through the website, this will allow you to take the ethics course and print out a certificate at the end
- Submit the proper paperwork regarding the ethics course to the appropriate person.
Paper Work = Certificate from Training Course
- Check with your advisor to make sure he or she has also completed the ethics course and submitted paperwork.
NOTE: It might be a good idea to take the ethics course together with your advisor, this way you can ensure both of you have met the requirement and submitted the paperwork.
- Obtain application materials. Review the IRB's website for detailed instructions.
- Fill out the application being sure to follow all instructions. Ask your advisor or the IRB for help.
- Give the application to your faculty advisor for review
- Obtain Faculty advisor's signature
- Submit your completed application to the IRB
- Wait for a response from the IRB
- Once your project has been approved - YOU'RE READY TO DO YOUR RESEARCH!!
