The OUR currently offers Undergraduate Research Support grants. These are small awards (up to $750) for those who need essential supplies to go forward with a feasible research project. Due to limited resources, we are unable to award supply grants to students who are working in funded laboratories. Applications for the Research Support Awards are considered each month.
These Undergraduate Research Support awards are sponsored by the Sarah Steele Danhoff Undergraduate Research Fund, the Gump Family Undergraduate Research Fund, the Kimball King Undergraduate Research Fund, the McGee Family Undergraduate Research Fund, and the Terry Sanford Undergraduate Research fund.
Eligibility:
All currently enrolled undergraduate students in good academic standing are eligible to apply. Priority will be given to projects that were posted in the OUR database of research opportunities. Ordinarily, awards are not made to students who are working in laboratories with other sources of funding.
Application process:
The student must submit the on-line application and a letter of recommendation from the faculty advisor who will oversee the research project. Applications received by the 15th of each month will be reviewed prior to the end of the month. The letter of recommendation should be delivered to:
Office for Undergraduate Research
Room 220, Graham Memorial
CB# 2800
Awards:
Successful applicants will receive up to $750 for research supplies or research-related expenses including travel. Receipts or invoices may be required for reimbursement. Successful applicants will be asked to prepare a brief statement explaining how the award was used at the completion of the project, and to acknowledge support from the respective funds in any publications resulting from the research.
