Outdoor Historical Drama Alumni Make Good
Mark Sumner, director emeritus of the Institute of Outdoor Drama,
is fond of saying that outdoor historical drama is the "crossover
spot" for performers and technicians. He refers to the unique
position outdoor historical drama has long occupied between pure
amateur theatre where everyone works without salaries, and professional
theatre where everyone is paid. Over the years, outdoor historical
drama has provided many a youngster with the splendid opportunity
to work in a professional environment to learn and hone the craft
of theatre and earn at least a subsistience salary.
