Originally
from Albany, Georgia, Yolonda Wilson is a proud two-time graduate
of Howard University in Washington, D.C. She received her
B.A. in Politcal Science and her Master's in Africana Philosophy.
Her Master's thesis at Howard University was on Anna Julia
Cooper. The Master's thesis which Yolonda completed at UNC-CH
is entitled "Preventive Detention." In her thesis,
Yolonda explored whether the state's interest in protecting
its citizens can (or should) ever be strong enough to detain
those who have not yet committed a crime, even when there
is a strong likelihood that they will. She focused on the
case of repeat sex offenders. Yolonda recently presented a
paper at the 2004 Central Division APA entitled, "The
Philosophical Activism of Anna Julia Cooper: Cooper, Black
Women, and Self-Respect." Her philosophical interests
include social and political philosophy, Africana philosophy,
