The Department of Biological Sciences at the University of Notre Dame is sponsoring a NSF Research Experience for Undergraduates program during the summer of 2004. The focal point of the proposed project is the use of model systems and basic research to study the cellular and molecular basis of disease. The program consists of nine weeks of biological research, a weekly graduate student seminar program which will introduce students to research they might do in graduate school, regular meetings in their research labs, special workshops on career choices in the sciences, the value of basic research, ethics, problem solving, scientific writing, and team building. Lastly, participants will give a formal presentation at the end of the summ er in a research symposium.Guidelines
Applications are sought from sophomores and juniors majoring in biological sciences who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents of the U.S.. Students from groups underrepresented in the sciences, disabled students, and students from small colleges are encouraged to apply.Applications
