The Leadership Alliance Summer Research Early Identification Programs are eight to ten week programs designed to encourage highly motivated underrepresented students across all disciplines to consider academic careers in higher education. Students work daily under the guidance of a faculty member to gain theoretical knowledge and practical training in academic research and scientific experimentation. The research experience may also include weekly seminars, regularly scheduled field trips as well as social and cultural activities.The Program Office will assign students to an Alliance institution with the approval of the host campus. After acceptance, students will receive communication from the host campus, including the name of the faculty mentor and research project, and research materials to review before the program begins.
Guidelines
All applicants must be in good academic standing with a GPA of 3.0 or better, and have completed at least two semesters at their respective undergraduate institutions. Applicants should have a demonstrated interest and potential to pursue graduate study. Participants are required to present a written report at the end of their summer research activity, and to complete an anonymous program evaluation. Application materials should include a completed application, personal statement, two letters of recommendation, an official copy of the college transcript, and a current resume.
