Synopsis
Known widely as one of the leading field stations in North America, the RMBL offers facilities for research and study. The Laboratory owns 245 acres and more than 50 buildings, including research laboratories, offices, cabins, a library, dormitories, a dining hall, classrooms, and a store and visitors' center. The lab is surrounded by National Forest and Wilderness which is available for research. During the summer, 150 research scientists, students, and staff take up residence to form an active community with a local newspaper, seminars, educational programs, and social events.  Any student who has not graduated before the summer begins is eligible.  Looking for students with a sincere interest in a career in field biology research.  Applications will be judged on the basis of financial need and on student motivation.  The essay and two recommendations count significantly.

The 10-week RMBL REU program is funded by the National Science Foundation. Students in this program will work with a mentor to develop a testable hypothesis, gather data, analyze it and produce a written and oral report. The program is intended to assist those students who must work through the summer in order to complete their education. RMBL gives special consideration to members of minorities currently under-represented in biology (defined by the National Science Foundation as Black, Hispanic, and Native American). If you feel you qualify, please be sure to so indicate on the application which is available online.
