The UCLA Summer Research Program for Undergraduate Students offers outstanding students the opportunity to work closely with faculty on research projects in virtually all academic fields such as the arts, humanities, social sciences, life sciences, health sciences, and physical sciences. You will be matched as closely as possible with a faculty mentor in your area of interest. You will either assist the faculty member with his/her research project or you will both design a mutually agreed upon research project. The program will feature regular workshops and seminars on the nature of academic life, standardized test preparation, writing and research skills and applying to graduate schools. The program will also offer informal meetings with faculty and graduate students as well as other cultural and educational activities. Upon completion of this program students will be better prepared and motivated to attend graduate school and pursue Ph.D.s in academic fields. Program activities are specifically designed to support and encourage students who intend to pursue an academic career in teaching and research. Information concerning this program, including an on-line application form, is available at the SPUR website .Students who intend to pursue professional graduate degrees in management, law, medicine, or dentistry are not eligible for this program. Special consideration will be given to applicants whose socioeconomic background, access to educational opportunities, and other life experiences would suggest that they would especially benefit from this type of program. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents entering their junior or senior year and who have a cumulative minimum GPA of 2.80.
