Jeff Summerlin-Long (entering 2005) received his B.A. with honors in International Studies from UNC-CH in 1997, with a Minor in Spanish.  He received his J.D. from the Washington College of Law of American University in Washington DC in 2000, and was licensed to practice law in North Carolina in 2001.  Jeff has worked in the New Bern office of Legal Aid of North Carolina, where he represented low-income North Carolinians in unemployment insurance, landlord/tenant, domestic violence and consumer cases.  He most recently worked as an immigration attorney for the North Carolina Justice Center in Raleigh, focusing on asylum, family-based immigration and removal defense.  His projected research interests lie at the intersection of sustainable community development, poverty policy, and environmental health, as well as the broad area of immigration policy.  He has received a UNC Graduate School Scholars for Tomorrow Fellowship in the area of Global Studies.
