Application Instructions

APPLICATION DEADLINE:  Primary consideration will be given to completed applications (including all required materials) received by January 1st.  Applications received after this date will be considered if space is available.   Applications received after January 1st will not be eligible for merit awards and other university fellowships.  Applications received after February 15th, will not be considered.

A. Material to be sent to: The Graduate School,

1. Application for Admission to the Graduate School
2. Check or money order made payable to the University of North Carolina with application (for application fee, please refer to Graduate School application)
3. One original copy of transcripts from each college or university you have attended should be sent to the Graduate School (second original copy of transcripts must be sent directly to the department.)
4. Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores -- directly from the Testing Service

Submit your Graduate School application via their online form for admission. This user-friendly, online application is faster and easier than completing a paper application and provides for the prompt receipt and distribution of your application information. Individuals with special needs, or internet access problems, can request hard copy information via this same site.

2. The statement called for in Item 8 of the Supplementary Questionnaire
3. Confidential references: Three academic references (See Graduate School required application materials to print forms)
4. Work (Employer reference)

7. Financial Certificate (non-resident aliens - International Students)

Applicants are encourage to take the Graduate Record Examination at the earliest possible date, preferably by October prior to the academic year for which you are applying. An Advanced Test, if one is given in the field of your undergraduate major, is optional. You may obtain a bulletin of information concerning the GRE from the nearest university, or by writing to the:

Also, for the applicants whose native language is not English, the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) is required by the Graduate School, with a minimum total score of 550 or better to be considered for admission.

Any exhibits, papers, or portfolio material accompanying the application will not be returned unless sufficient postage is provided.
