Recent Ph.D. Graduates

Laura Desimone (graduated December 1996). Laura's research interests are in the school-based intervention policy for socio-economically disadvantaged children. While at UNC she worked as a graduate assistant to the Research Institute for Service Utilization, through the Frank Porter Graham Child Development Research Center, and worked at the RAND Corporation in Washington, DC while writing her dissertation. Laura held a two year post-doctoral fellowship at the Bush Center in Child Development and Social Policy at Yale University. She spent three years as a Research Scientist with the American Institutes for Research (AIR) in Washington, DC. In addition to her Ph.D, she has a BA in American Studies from Wesleyan University, and an MPA from American University. She also studied French literature at the College International de Cannes. Laura is currently an assistant professor of education and public policy at Vanderbilt University.
