Caryn Bredenkamp (2001) joined the program from South Africa. She has B.A. (Economics and Political Science), B.A. Hons (Economics) and M.A. (Economics) degrees from the University of Stellenbosch and, prior to coming to UNC, held lectureships at universities in South Africa and the Netherlands. At UNC, Caryn specialized in health economics and has worked on research projects related to child malnutrition in India and HIV/AIDS in Zambia and South Africa. Caryn is a predoctoral trainee at the Carolina Population Center where she is writing her dissertation on the contribution of rapid income growth to the health status of children in China. After defending her dissertation in August 2006, she will take up a position as Health Economist in the Eastern Europe and Central Asia region of the World Bank.
