TIPS FOR VOLUNTEERS

 

DO:

1. Be on Time.

 2. Let the consumer and staff know well in advance if you cannot keep an appointment.

 3. Keep track of your hours.

 4. Be pleasant, dependable, and keep your promises.

 5. Learn the names of the people you are working with.

 6. Look for and develop common interests with the individual.

 7. Learn about any relevant policies and programs.

 8. Participate in training sessions.

 9. Open yourself to new opportunities for personal growth.

 10. Take pride in being a Volunteer!

 DON’T:

1. Lend money or give gifts without permission.

 2. Make promises that you won’t be able to keep.

 3. Seek unnecessary information from the person.

 4. Discuss controversial subjects.

 5. Pry into the individual’s situation.

 6. Become personally involved in an individual’s problems.

 7. Promise financial help personally or on behalf of the agency.

 8. Handle a person’s financial matters without permission from your contact person.

 9. Purchase medical supplies or give medication without permission.
