Carolina Volleyball to Hold Pink Night for Breast Cancer Awareness

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The Carolina volleyball team will hold a Think Pink Night for breast cancer awareness when the Tar Heels host Boston College at 5 p.m. on Oct. 20.

October is national Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and UNC will have several events during the match to help raise awareness.

“We are honored to be a part of national breast cancer awareness month and to host a match to honor the work of so many cancer survivors and volunteers,” head volleyball coach Joe Sagula said. “This is such an important mission because it touches so many people who we all know and support. We hope to raise both financial support for Get Real & Heel and continued awareness to help fight cancer, and we want to promote the message of hope and support for breast cancer survivors and future research.”

There will be a silent auction during the UNC-Boston College match of the pink jerseys the Tar Heels will wear that night, and pink Carolina volleyball t-shirts will be available for purchase, with all proceeds going to Get Real & Heel, a program through the university that serves breast cancer patients in North Carolina. Donations will also be accepted at the match.

Get Real & Heel integrates individualized prescriptive exercise with recreational therapy to provide a program that strengthens the patient’s body and mind. Get Real & Heel develops individualized plans that help each participant manage cancer treatment related symptoms and increase chances of survivorship and quality of life. Because of grant support, this program is currently provided to individuals free of charge.
