| POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT:
TENURE-TRACK ASSISTANT PROFESSOR
EMPHASIS: Therapeutic Recreation with ability to also teach in undergraduate and graduate general recreation core. APPOINTMENT BEGINS: July 1, 2001 CLOSING DEADLINE: Review begins November 17, 2000, applications accepted until the position is filled. BACKGROUND: The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is the oldest public university in the United States. Over 24,000 graduate and undergraduate students attend the University, which is located in the Triangle area of North Carolina. Duke University and North Carolina State University make up the other two large universities located in the Triangle area. The University is a three hour drive from the coast and three hours from the mountains. The Department of Recreation and Leisure Studies' curriculum has been in existence for 55 years. The Mission of the Department is to pursue excellence in transdisciplinary teaching, scholarship and service to address evolving recreation and leisure rights, needs, and interests and promote inclusion and social justice in state, national, and international communities. The undergraduate program has been accredited by NRPA/AALR since 1978 with a general recreation focus and the opportunity for students to be eligible for CPRP and CTRS. The Master of Science in Recreation Administration (MSRA) degree offers specializations in Recreation Management and Therapeutic Recreation. The Department consists of five tenure-track faculty and three full-time staff who work in the Department's Center for Recreation and Disability Studies. RESPONSIBILITIES: Research and scholarship including publishing and grant writing in areas related to the Department's mission; teaching in undergraduate and graduate general recreation core; advising undergraduates and Masters students; coordinating graduate Therapeutic Recreation specialization; service to university, state, and profession. QUALIFICATIONS: An earned doctoral degree is preferred with at least one degree in recreation along with demonstrated and potential success in research and scholarship. Teaching and practitioner experience is desirable as is certification as a CTRS. APPLICATION DETAILS:
