The Slavic Cognitive Linguistics Association will undertake the following activities:

1) It will organize an annual conference and publish its proceedings. A call for papers for the first conference, scheduled for November 3-4, 2000 at UNC-Chapel Hill, has been issued. Papers may be delivered in any language, but in the event that a paper is to be delivered in a language other than English or Russian, the abstract should be prepared in English or Russian. At a business meeting at the first conference we will formalize the Slavic Cognitive Linguistics Association, make any necessary amendments or additions to our mission statement, and elect officers. In the meantime, Stephen Dickey and Laura Janda will serve as our interim co-presidents, Steven Clancy will serve as our interim secretary, and Meredith Clason will serve as our interim webmaster. If anybody wishes to volunteer their services for other interim positions, please let us know.

2) It will publish an email newsletter in order to promote contact among members, announce the call for papers, the program of the conference, and other news. Brief (1-2 page) articles may also be placed in the newsletter (if an article is in a language other than English or Russian, a 1-paragraph abstract in one of those languages will be requested).

3) It will maintain a continuously updated bibliography of Cognitive Linguistics publications on Slavic languages. Laura Janda has made an initial attempt to gather this bibliographic information. Please take a look at her bibliography of Slavic Cognitive Linguistics at the end of her position paper on Cognitive Linguistics (http://www.indiana.edu/~slavconf/SLING2K) and send us any additional items that should be added to this bibliography.

4) It will maintain a database of scholars who pursue Slavic Cognitive Linguistics and their contact information. Please fill out your contact information below so that we can start our database.

5) It will annually award a prize for the best graduate student paper in Slavic Cognitive Linguistics.

6) It will undertake fundraising activities in order to provide competitively awarded travel grants for members who will present papers at future Slavic Cognitive Linguistics Association conferences and International Cognitive Linguistics Conferences.

7) It will seek affiliation with the International Cognitive Linguistics Association and with the American Association of Teachers of Slavic and East European Languages.
