Study Abroad
We strongly recommend that students learning a Slavic language participate in a
study abroad program, particularly once they have acquired sufficient language
skills to benefit most from this immersion experience. UNC-CH has approved
ACTR/ACCELS (American Councils for International Education) semester, academic-year,
and summer programs in Moscow, St. Petersburg, or Vladimir, Russia, as
well as the SIT (School for International Training) Program in Ethnic and
Cultural Studies in St. Petersburg and Irkutsk. UNC-CH has also approved
several other study abroad programs in the Slavic world, including two in the Czech Republic, (the Honors in Prague Program and the SIT Program in Arts and Social Change, also in Prague), as well as programs at the Jagiellonian University in Krakow.

In partnership with the Russian State University of the Humanities
(known as both RGGU and RSUH), UNC is offering new programs for
students to study in the exciting Russian capital, Moscow. Developed
in cooperation with UNC's Department of Slavic Languages and
Literatures, the Curriculum in International and Area Studies, and the
Center for Slavic, Eurasian, and East European Studies, the summer
program provides a unique opportunity for students to study
contemporary Russia first-hand, or to continue Russian language study
in an intensive setting. Semester and year-long programs are projected as well, in which students
will attend regular university classes with students from the
host country.
